A few years ago squarespace.com launched their do-it-yourself logo building app. It was a way to add value for people who wanted to take a stab at creating their own logo. When I first heard of this logo application my knee-jerk designer reaction was, “Blasphemy!” But you can’t stop progress and I now think that this type of design-based tool is a good educational exercise. The more everyone understands the basic principals of creating a logo, the better off we’ll all be. Not everyone can afford an agency or freelance designer to custom craft a logo/brand for their company. Squarespace’s logo creation tool is a starting point. A way to start a dialogue. And for the right group perhaps even a means to an end.
